Mrs. Bowers book signing & 90th birthday!

Celebrating a Milestone with talent

Mrs. Janette Bowers is one of the first residents of The Abbey Independent Living since 2014. In celebration of her 90th birthday, Janette wrote a book “The Ginny We Remember” a tribute to her friend, Virginia Irvin. Our community welcomed about 200 guests that day! Many people came to show their love and support to Mrs.Bowers.

This is a true story of a very young woman who graduated from Reagan High School, in Houston, Texas, and attended Sam Houston State College where she majored in music. She began an amazing career in both music and building young people’s lives in a unique way – through music and friendship. During her entire career, she never varied from her goals of sponsoring Philos and music.

The Benefits of Independent Living in Houston, TX

As the holiday season approaches, many families with loved ones in assisted living facilities are faced with the question of how to celebrate and spend time together while ensuring the health and safety of their elderly family members. Independent living communities offer a solution that provides both the comfort of home and the support of professional care. In Houston, TX, there are a variety of independent living options available that cater to the needs and preferences of seniors. In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of independent living in Houston, TX, and why it might be the perfect choice for your loved one this holiday season.

The Benefits Offered By Independent Living

Independence and Freedom

One of the top benefits of independent living communities is the sense of independence and freedom they provide. Unlike assisted living facilities, independent living communities are designed for residents who are self-sufficient and able to live on their own. This gives seniors the freedom to live their lives on their terms and maintain their independence while still having access to a variety of services and amenities. Independent living communities in Houston, TX, offer everything from housekeeping and meal services to transportation and social activities, enabling residents to live comfortably and maintain their independence.

Socialization and Community

Socialization and community are crucial factors in maintaining mental and emotional well-being, especially for seniors. Independent living communities offer a wide range of social activities and events, allowing residents to interact with their peers and build meaningful relationships while participating in fun and engaging activities. These communities offer opportunities for residents to attend social events, take part in organized group outings, and participate in fitness classes, among other activities. Additionally, independent living communities in Houston, TX, often have common areas and lounges, where residents can relax and socialize with friends and family members.

Health and Wellness

Independent living communities prioritize the health and wellness of their residents by offering access to high-quality healthcare services and amenities. These communities often have on-site healthcare professionals who help residents manage their health and wellness and provide medical care when needed. Many independent living facilities also offer fitness and other wellness options, providing residents with opportunities to stay active and maintain their overall health.

Convenience and Safety

Another significant advantage of independent living communities is the convenience and safety they offer. With housekeeping and maintenance services readily available, residents do not have to worry about upkeep tasks such as cleaning and repairs. Professionals handle these tasks, ensuring that the community remains clean, safe, and comfortable for residents. In addition, independent living communities often have security features such as surveillance cameras, controlled access systems, and security personnel, providing peace of mind for residents and their families.

Personalized Experience

Independent living communities in Houston, TX, also provide a personalized experience, enabling residents to select the housing option that best suits their needs and preferences. These communities offer a variety of housing options, including apartments, cottages, and villas, each of which provides a unique living experience. Furthermore, residents have many choices regarding amenities and services, allowing them to tailor their living experience to their specific lifestyle.

Independent living communities in Houston, TX offer many benefits that make them an excellent choice for seniors looking for a comfortable, convenient, and safe living environment. As we approach the holiday season, independent living communities are especially valuable, providing residents with the support they need to celebrate and spend time with their families while maintaining their independence and well-being. If you are looking for a welcoming and supportive environment for your loved one this holiday season, consider exploring the independent living options available in Houston, TX.

Celebrating Holidays with Your Loved One in Assisted Living in Houston TX

Holidays can be a difficult time for families when their loved one is in an assisted living facility. However, it is important to make the most of these special occasions and celebrate with your loved one. There are many ways to make the holidays special for your loved one in assisted living, from decorating their room to planning festive events. In this article, we will go over some ideas for celebrating holidays with your loved one in an assisted living facility in Houston, TX.

Ideas For Gatherings This Holiday Season:

Decorate Their Room

Decorating your loved one’s room can lift their mood and make them feel the holiday spirit. Bring in some special decorations like twinkling lights, holiday banners, and a festive tree to brighten up their space. You can also ask the facility staff if there are any regulations about decorations.

Plan a Family Gathering

If your loved one is able, you can plan a family gathering at the assisted living facility. Reserve the community room or a private dining room and decorate it with holiday decorations. You can bring in food, play games, and exchange gifts with your loved one. Be sure to check with the staff on any regulations and if they have any recommendations for a successful event.

Bring in Entertainment

Many assisted living facilities have events scheduled for holidays, but you can also bring in your own entertainment. You can play holiday music from a speaker or hire a musician to come in and perform for your loved one. You can also watch holiday movies together.

Create a Holiday Memory Book

If your loved one is unable to participate in physical activities, you can spend time creating a holiday memory book. You can fill it with pictures and stories from past holidays to reminisce and share happy memories. You can also ask family and friends to contribute their own stories and pictures.

Volunteer Together

The holidays are a time for giving and volunteering can be a great way to spread the holiday spirit. Many assisted living facilities have volunteer opportunities or you can find an organization that is in need of volunteers. Spending time volunteering with your loved one will not only make them feel good, but it will also provide a sense of purpose.

Celebrating holidays with your loved one in assisted living can be meaningful and rewarding. By decorating their room, planning family gatherings, bringing in entertainment, creating a holiday memory book, and volunteering together, you can make the holidays special for your loved one. Remember to check with the facility on any regulations and to ask if they have any suggestions for holiday celebrations. With a little effort and creativity, you can make the holidays a memorable time for your loved one in assisted living.
