Beloved resident Jeanette K. celebrated her 101st birthday — a milestone that reflects over a century of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jeanette was born on February 11, 1924, in Mattoon, Illinois. Throughout her remarkable life, she has remained dedicated to family, hard work, and a keen interest in the world around her. She became a resident of The Abbey at Westminster Plaza on March 26, 2016, bringing with her a warmth and kindness that has touched those around her.
Family has always been at the heart of Jeanette’s journey. She and her late husband shared many years before his passing when she was just 53 years old. Though she never remarried, she devoted herself to raising her family, including her two sons and one daughter. Today, she is the proud grandmother of four and great-grandmother to five, finding joy in the love and closeness of her family.
Jeanette’s early career began as an administrative assistant. She later returned to the workforce after her husband’s passing — a testament to her ability to adapt to life’s changes, as well as her strength and character.
In her leisure time, Jeanette has always enjoyed being close to her family, watching movies, and staying informed on current events. She has been an avid follower of political talk shows and late-night television, always eager to engage in meaningful discussions about the world around her.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, Jeanette attributes it to maintaining a good sense of humor, enjoying meals at a steady pace, and always being kind and thoughtful to others. Her compassion extends beyond people — she has been a lifelong animal lover, always sharing her home with cats and dogs. Her love for animals even led to a memorable moment when she injured her shoulder while rescuing a peacock trapped in her fence. Her kindness knows no bounds, even stopping her car to allow a squirrel to cross the road safely.
Reflecting on the incredible advancements she has witnessed over the past century, Jeanette considers television and cable TV among the most significant technological inventions.
