Resident Celebrates 101 Years

Beloved resident Jeanette K. celebrated her 101st birthday — a milestone that reflects over a century of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Jeanette was born on February 11, 1924, in Mattoon, Illinois. Throughout her remarkable life, she remained dedicated to family, hard work, and a keen interest in the world around her. She became a resident of The Abbey at Westminster Plaza on March 26, 2016, bringing with her a warmth and kindness that has touched everyone around her.

Family has always been at the heart of Jeanette's journey. She and her late husband shared many years together before his passing when she was just 53. Though she never remarried, she devoted herself to raising her family — two sons and one daughter. Today, she is the proud grandmother of four and great-grandmother to five, finding joy in the closeness of her family.

In her leisure time, Jeanette has always enjoyed being close to her family, watching movies, and staying informed on current events. She is an avid follower of political talk shows and late-night television, always eager to engage in meaningful conversations about the world.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, Jeanette attributes it to maintaining a good sense of humor, enjoying meals at a steady pace, and always being kind and thoughtful to others. Her compassion is boundless — she has been a lifelong animal lover who once injured her shoulder rescuing a peacock trapped in her fence, and who regularly stops her car to let squirrels cross the road safely.

"Jeanette is a true inspiration to all of us at The Abbey at Westminster Plaza," said Maria Alvarado, Executive Director. "Her kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for family and community embody the spirit of our community. We are honored to have Jeanette as part of our family."
